  1. Note all the ways Joseph obeys the Lord in this passage.Does it follow that obedience will yield a life of comfort? Does godliness necessarily yield a life of respect by men?What then, is our motivation to obey God?
  2. In what ways is God’s sovereignty evidence in the middle of the chaotic and even violent events in these passages?How is that a comfort to you today?
  3. In relation to the murder of the baby boys in Bethlehem, Matthew quotes Jeremiah 31:15, which refers to grief over God’s people going into exile.But that is not the end of the story.Read Jeremiah 31:16-17, 31-34.  What is the promise of this passage?  How does the promise relate to Jesus?
